‘Needless to say we instantly fell in love with 9Trees.’’’
This was a passion project.
Passion in regards to the people involved in the project and the level of love and care for what they are doing. 9Trees is a tree planting initiative founded by two incredible individuals Ash and Mike, funded by subscribers of both the general public and business.
Thier vision stands out from the crowd. No mono crops or far fetched ‘carbon off-setting’ initiatives, instead they plant and nurture biodiverse woodlands right here in the UK.
In addition to this they geolocate the trees and create sustainable jobs here in the UK and they have nearly 40yrs experience in woodland management and conservation. Needless to say we instantly fell in love with 9Trees.

Guiding founders Mike and Ash through the branding process was the first port of call. With the use of a little design strategy we helped set in stone the purpose of the brand and wider vision. We began on formulating the culture, look and feel and vision of the organisation.
Design Strategy
It was apparent that 9Trees required a design approach that would simplify the brand, bring consistency across all platforms and to clearly identify varying demographics that contributed to the planting of trees.
Within the discovery process we began to identify patterns and characteristics within the vision. There were three main target audiences that required three varying tones and approaches. These were businesses, people (or general public) and Landowners. The challenge then was to create a cohesive ‘look and feel’ that catered for each demographic.
Logo Enhancements
Once we had delved deep into the purpose behind 9Trees we moved from the strategy phase into the visualisation stage. We looked at enhancing the existing logo to ensure longevity and compatibility across print and web. Additionally, we felt the logo needed to sit confidently amongst some of the top brands within the sector.
Website Design
The purpose of the website is paramount to the design process. This is drawn from the initial strategy phase and reflects the type of people we wish to guide though the 9Trees story. Before we delve into aesthetics we wireframe, formulate an effective approach and then structure the journey of each target demographic.
We felt that seperating out each specific demographic was the most efficient way of crafting the experience for each of the target audiences. This meant that we could refine the tone for each of these.
During this journey we realised a few elements of the business would be best communicated through visual aids so we pulled together assets that succinctly communicated these. One of which was the many benefits of the 9Trees model and how this related to all demographics (featured below):
