It was quite bizarre.
I received a call from Costa Rica and on the other side is a friend of mine who is currently travelling around South America. We had a quick catch up and then he proceeds to tell me that he’s working on a big architectural project for Astra Zeneca (a large Pharmaceutical company), he says ‘im looking through thier database of visual references and in there is a folder titled Clerkenwell Design Week, guess who I see?’, turns out, it was me. I mean, what are the chances?
It just goes to show how fortunate I am to be involved with such a great week of cutting edge design. Clerkenwell Design Week pulls in a melting pot of people from all corners of the globe (sorry flat earthers, its a globe). Not only does it pull people in but as a result it also reaches out, on a global scale. I have worked for the amasing Ideapaint, who every year feature in the Orangebox showroom in Clerkenwell, London. Ideapaint are this fun, innovative company who have provided dry erase walls for some of the largest global brands including Google, T.E.D and Paypal.
There’s a reason why the cavemen did it
In the past few years we have drafted designs that we felt would be the most engaging for people to interact with (you can see previous years designs here) and build engagement across social channels during the event. This year we took a slightly different approach. I wanted to come up with a summary of the company as a whole. A short, temporary slogan to quickly sum up the value of Ideapaint. For me, it is the way the dry erase walls cultivate a culture of spontaneity, collaboration, instantaneous creativity and sharing of ideas. This is why some of the most successful companies across the globe use the product. They realise that this is the business culture of the future. Why wait for a board meeting? Do what we’ve done for millennia, draw it. There’s a reason why cavemen did it. It’s extremely effective, it transcends language barriers… Oh and the iphone wasn’t invented. I chose to illustrate the entire creative process, within the context of business. From concept to creation. Below is the theme for this years mural.
