Synergy of Open Source - (Explained)

How can something that is free, have so much value? This inspiring talk by Yochai Benkler opens our eyes to the open source economies and innovations that are revolutionising the way we go forward as a global entity...

The art piece and illustration (below) inspired by Yochai Benkler's Ted Talk on Open Source Economies.
Synergy of Open Source - drawing/illustration - framed print (A4)

The piece is designed to represent a structure of human cooperation (the trunk of the tree) with a large, highly complex structural network bieng supported from below (representing the building blocks and intricacy of the internet). Trees feature heavily in my work, often functioning as a metaphorical nod to the natural, organic process of evolution.

Having created Synergy of Open Source through hours of drawing, I felt the artwork deserved a frame that would compliment the labour of love that had gone into the piece. Fortunately, I came across a stunning little workshop in Bristol city centre where two lovely people hand make all varieties of frame from stunning materials. The shop is called the Little Framing Company and the owners are lovely, really helpful and passionate about the products they provide and the quality of their frames, reflect that passion.

After completing the final print, I always try to add an extra element to the design, primarily to reflect the time and effort that goes into such a piece. For many of my artworks I try to add a personal touch and assurance of authenticity to the work. Here you can see the wax seal stamp and certificate of authenticity that is attached to the rear of each framed print.

Additional to the artworks seen above are other products available via the online shop (*prints are now only available on request). These include a high quality unisex t-shirt of the same design.
